Fat Bottomed Girls

Fat Bottomed Girls es un “hit single” de Queen. Fue lanzado en 1978 siendo parte del álbum “Jazz”. Esta canción fue escrita por el guitarrista de la banda, Brian May, y fue una de las canciones de Queen tocadas en una alternativa entonación de guitarra, comúnmente llamada "drop D tuning”. La letra expresa claramente “Que la belleza no es igual para todos según el punto de vista de quien observa”, si lo vemos como una opinión jocosa acerca del sexo. Esta canción es también considerada irónica debido a la ambigua condición sexual de quien ocupaba la voz principal de Queen, Freddie Mercury, sobre el escenario.

Los arreglos vocales son muy diferentes entre la versión estudio y la versión en vivo. En las presentaciones en vivo, la voz principal era interpretada, durante el coro, por nuestro querido Freddie, armonizada en los altos por Taylor y en los bajos por May. En la versión estudio, en tanto, no existe la harmonía “de altos”. En esta versión la primera voz está hecha por Mercury, manteniéndose May en los bajos, realizando también éste último, la voz principal en el coro.

En su versión “single” (la que se encuentra en Greatest Hits) omite la extensa interpretación de guitarra entre los versos, como también al inicio y al final.

“Fat Bottomed Girls” fue lanzado como un Double A-side(Doble lado) con la canción “Bicycle Race”. Este corte incluye la línea “Get on your bikes and ride” (Monten sus ‘bicis’ y conduzcan). “Bicycle Race” también contiene una línea similar, "Fat bottomed girls, they'll be riding today, so look out for those beauties, oh yeah" (Chicas gordas fondadas, ellas ‘la llevan’ hoy, entonces echa un vistazo a esas bellezas, o si), dejando a la vista las referencias de tema sobre el otro.

La portada del sencillo original aparece una mujer desnuda montada en una bicicleta. Por este simple hecho, muchas tiendas rechazaron los discos, haciendo que el sello reemplazara a la mujer desnuda por una vestida.
